The LEAD project - Local Equality Agencies Development, funded within the INTERREG III C European project, wants to promote the Equality Local Agencies.
The main goal of the Equality Local Agency is to foster and consolidate a network at a local level among specialist equal opportunities institutes and centres, local institutions, labour policy authorities, in order to further female participation in decisional processes. Throughout the project an agency was tried out.
As a preparatory activity to the constitution of the Equality Local Agencies, from July 2005 to June 2006 the project has been carrying out an analysis in order to:
♦ identify the difficulties of female participation in social, economic and political life at a local level
♦ set out some key points to increase female participation in social, economic and political life in terms of either quantity and quality
♦ enter into agreements with different local actors to promote interventions to remove the registered difficulties.
The results of this study, developed with the contribution of relevant social actors, were gathered in a document, the Equality Local Agenda, which is the starting point to create the Equality Local Agencies.
Through two transnational meetings the partners then compared the developed processes and the achieved results, and the intervention became a model starting up the European guidelines to the draft of Equality Local Agendas (free download available online), according to the project.
The Agencies’ activity was supported by a cross action about equal opportunities oriented communication, which has produced the European Guidelines for gender oriented communication (free download).
