2007: European Year of Equal Opportunities for All
Seminars and educational paths in the councils of the province to spread gender culture.
The European Year is the centrepiece of a framework strategy to tackle discrimination and to promote equal opportunities. The strategy is set out in a Communication adopted by the European Commission, whose core themes are:
♦ R as Rights
, to raise the awareness of the right to equality and non-discrimination.
♦ R as Representation,
to increase the participation of under-represented groups in the society.
♦ R as Recognition
, to celebrate and acknowledge diversity.
♦ R as Respect
, to say no to violence and stereotypes.
In this perspective, the Province of Milan intends to increase further on its actions besides the gender policies already taken up, and spread them out in the territory through a network involving the Councils.
The aim is to promote gender culture, supporting the opening of services for women and fostering activities for all the citizens, for the operators, the administrators and women committed in politics
Therefore, on the occasion of the European Year of Equal Opportunities, the Province has placed several activities at the interested Councils‘ disposal:
: two hour meetings, where an expert expounds the subject in a simple way, giving directions to make women aware of their rights and how to protect them, according to the latest legislation about social life, family and work. The seminars follow two main trends “Women, Men and Rights” and “Women, Work and Business”.
♦ EDUCATIONAL PATHS
: short classes to strengthen and improve personal relationships and professional skills, targeted to women, experts and administrators.
♦ REFERENCE WORKS
: publications, video, booklets, leaflets, cards and other material available for free to spread a gender and equal opportunity culture.
